Chinua Azubike — CEO, Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company Limited

Chinua Azubike is the pioneer Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of InfraCredit with over 15 years’ experience in corporate/structured finance and debt capital market roles.

Chinua has a strong and practical know-how of local capital markets with a firm interest in market development and has acted as a lead adviser in the establishment of key development finance institutions in Nigeria. He is currently the chairperson of the Regulation Consolidation Sub-Committee of FMDQ Debt Capital Market Development Project.

Chinua is a protagonist of Harvard Business School’s Case Study on “Infrastructure in Nigeria: Unlocking Pension Fund Investments” published in February 2018 and is being taught on HBS’s MBA Program.

He holds an MSc. in Finance & Financial Law from University of London and studied law at the University of Lagos, Nigeria.

Attahiru Maccido is an Islamic Banking and Finance expert with specialty in Islamic Capital Markets. He was instrumental in structuring Nigeria’s first public Sukuk, the Osun State Ijarah Sukuk, and played an active role in structuring the FGN Sovereign Sukuk of 2017, 2018 and 2020. He also structured Nigeria’s first private Sukuk al-Istisna’a issued by Lotus Capital in 2010.

Attahiru was the pioneer CEO of Lotus Financial Services Limited, a subsidiary of Lotus Capital Limited.  He constructed and managed the first Lotus Islamic Equity Index from 2009 – 2012. He also worked with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2002-2006.

He holds BSc in Economics from Usman Danfodio University and MSc. in Economics from University of Abuja.

Dr Basheer Oshodi – Co-Founder & CEO, TrustBanc Arthur, Nigeria

Dr Basheer Oshodi (Ph.D.) is the CEO and co-founder of TrustBanc Arthur with over 21-years’ work experience in banking, real-estate and academia.

He was Group Head, Non-Interest Banking at Sterling Bank and set-up the non-interest banking window in 2013. He also started non-interest banking at Stanbic IBTC Bank and initiated Shariah products at Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Ltd.

He has completed degrees and programmes at the University of Lagos, Said Business School – Oxford, Columbia Business School, Wharton Real Estate Centre, Da Vinci Institute, London Metropolitan University and the University of Buckingham.

Mr. Temi Popoola, CFA is the Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited. He is a successful C-suite leader whose unique blend of business acumen, financial expertise, global market growth and operational insight has earned him a reputation built on verifiable career achievements.

He is a Wall Street trained investment banker who began his career in London as a portfolio manager focused on African energy markets, after which he worked as a senior equity derivatives trader with Bank of America Securities in New York. Since his return to Nigeria, he has worked with United Bank for Africa and CSL Stockbrokers Limited, as well as Renaissance Capital where he was Managing Director and CEO for West Africa before making his transition to NGX Ltd.

Mr. Popoola is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Stockbroker (CIS). He holds the Series 7 and 63 licensures.

Mohammed Mustapha Bintube – Chairman/CEO, Buraq Capital Limited Nigeria

Mohammed Mustapha Bintube was the pioneer Managing Director / CEO of Jaiz Bank Plc. He has over thirty years of institution building and corporate governance experience garnered at reputable boards such as Nigerian Communications Commission, Bank of Industry, Hogg Robinson Nigeria, Nigeria Re-Insurance Corporation, FSB International Bank etc.

He is currently the Chairman / CEO of Buraq Capital Ltd, a financial advisory firm that actively participated in the structuring and offering of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Sukuk Programme that raised over N350 Billion in the Nigerian Capital Market for infrastructure development.         

He holds a BSc in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. He is also an Alumnus of Ivy League Schools such as Columbia Business School, New York, Wharton Business School, Philadelphia, IMD Lausanne, Switzerland, INSEAD of France etc.

Assistant Professor Dr Ziyaad Mahomed is currently Associate Dean of E-learning, managing online programs and Director of Executive Education at INCEIF. He holds a PhD and CIFP from INCEIF in Malaysia, an MBA from MANCOSA in South Africa and a BA (Hons) in Business (Finance) from ARU in the UK. He also holds certification in Islamic law from South Africa and Jordan. He was Managing Director of a boutique consultancy in Shariah advisory since 2006, after serving as National Head of Marketing & Product Development at Albaraka Bank South Africa. Dr Ziyaad specialises in Shariah, Islamic Capital Markets, Fintech and Social Finance. His research areas include fintech, Sukuk announcement effects, the use of Islamic social finance instruments for disaster relief and economic empowerment and customer behaviour in Islamic finance.

He serves on several Shariah boards internationally, some of which are as Chairman of the Shariah board of HSBC Amanah (Malaysia) and Taj Bank (Nigeria), and a Shariah board member of BML Islamic (Maldives). 

Most recently, Dr Ziyaad has published on Social Impact Sukuk, Shariah analysis of sustainability practices and the impact of increased Shari’ah knowledge on sales staff investigating share price impact before and after issuing Sukuk. He has received several awards for his innovation in social finance modelling and numerous best paper awards at academic conferences internationally. He has also received a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to Islamic finance in Africa.

Abimbola Ajinibi holds a BSc from the University of Ibadan and an MSc in International Management from the University of London.

Abimbola is currently a Vice President with FBNQuest Trustees (A member of FBN Holding Company) as the Regional Head in charge of the company business in the Northern Region. Prior to joining FBNQuest Trustees, he was a Business Manager with Fountain Trust Bank Plc, Nigeria. He started his Banking career with United Bank of Africa Plc, where he acquired tremendous experience in Retail, Commercial and Corporate Banking.

Bimbo is a seasoned professional with over 22 years’ experience that spanned through Trust Services, Estate Planning, Private Banking/Wealth Management, Credit/Marketing, Relationship Management and Financial Services.

He has attended various local and international courses including at Harvard University and MIT Sloan School of Management where he had Executive Education studies in Leadership and Negotiation. He attended training on Governance at Singapore Management University and also Private Wealth Management workshops at Euromoney, London, UK.

Chukwuyere Izuogu is presently the head of the telecoms, media and technology (TMT) practice at Streamsowers & Köhn, and also a senior research fellow at the African Academic Network on Internet Policy where his practice and research interest focus are on all areas of telecommunications, information technology, intellectual property, media and competition law. Chukwuyere is the author of Regulating Anti-competitive Practices in Nigeria’s Communications Sector, (Wolf Legal Publishers, Netherlands, January 2017).

Chukwuyere was educated at the University of Benin, Nigeria (2003) where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL. B), at the Nigeria Law School (2005) where he obtained his Barrister-at-Law professional certificate, and jointly at the University of Hannover, Germany and Strathclyde University, Scotland (2009) where he obtained his Master of Law (LL.M) degree in Information Technology & Intellectual Property Law (Magna Cum Laude).

Chukwuyere is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chartered Institute for Arbitrators, a Certified Information Privacy Professional-Europe (CIPP/E) and a British Computer Society (BCS) Certified Practitioner of Data Protection.

Dr Aishath Muneeza – Associate Professor at INCEIF, Malaysia

Dr Aishath Muneeza is an Associate Professor at INCEIF, Malaysia which is known as the global University of Islamic Finance. She has served as the first female Deputy Minister of Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Maldives; Deputy Minister of Ministry of Finance and Treasury in Maldives; Head of Islamic Finance of Capital Market Development Authority of Maldives; member of Islamic Fiqh Academy (National Fatawa Council of Maldives); first chairman of Hajj pilgrimage fund, Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited; chairman of Maldives Center for Islamic Finance Limited which was set by government of Maldives to strategize Maldives as the hub of Islamic finance in South Asia; Islamic Finance consultant who developed the first shariah compliant Islamic microfinance scheme offered in Maldives; the Shariah Advisor who structured all the corporate sukuks offered in Maldives; Shariah Adviser who structured the private sukuk and Islamic treasury instruments for the government of Maldives; and the consultant who drafted the Islamic capital market legal framework for the country.

Since 2013, Dr Muneeza is a registered Shariah Adviser with the Capital Market Development Authority of Maldives to structure Islamic capital market products and she is a registered Shariah Adviser at Securities Commission Malaysia. Since 2011, she has been the chairman of apex Shariah Advisory Council of Capital Market Development Authority of Maldives and she is the chairperson of different in-house shariah advisory committees. She is also a member of Board Shariah Committee of CIMB Islamic, Malaysia and Munich Re. She is also a member of Public Interest Monitoring Consultative Committee (PIMCC) of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

Dr Muneeza has also published research papers in different academic journals and has published books.

Hassan Usman is a seasoned accountant with a first-class degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Prior to his appointment as the Managing Director/CEO of Jaiz Bank Plc, Hassan served as GM Business Development and was ED Operations and Information Technology in the organisation.

Hassan is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the President of the Non-Interest Financial Institutions Association of Nigeria (NIFIAN). He obtained PGDM in 1995 from Maastricht School of Management and attended Oxford University Advanced Management Programme in 2002.

He worked as Financial Controller of Nigerian Development Company Limited, Kaduna until he joined NAL Merchant Bank Plc. and served as the Financial Controller and Treasurer respectively between1996-2001. Mr. Hassan served as GM, Banking Services before re-joining NAL Bank as DGM and Head, Business and Financial Advisory Group.

Ibrahim Dikko - CEO, Hitel Communications Limited Nigeria

Ibrahim Dikko obtained his LL. M [Corporate & Commercial Law] degree from the Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London, England after obtaining his LL. B from the University of Buckingham, England. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990.

He has worked in a variety of roles and industries that span corporate finance, banking and information technology and telecommunications. He worked at Kenneth Michael & Co between 1991 and 1992 and was on the team responsible for setting up the first discount house in Nigeria and was chairman of the discount house from 2002 – 2012. He also worked as Executive Director in Resourcery Plc. from 2000 to 2007 and was Vice President (Regulatory & Corporate Affairs) with EMTS Ltd (trading as Etisalat Nigeria) until 2017.

He consults on regulatory compliance with a focus on competition regulation and has a keen focus on corporate governance.

Professor Konyinsola Ajayi SAN is a Partner at Olaniwun Ajayi LP, a leading corporate and commercial law firm in Lagos, Nigeria. He has led some of the biggest and most complex commercial transactions on the continent, playing a key role as legal adviser to the Central Bank of Nigeria on the 2008/2009 banking reforms. In addition, he has worked on public sector reforms, white collar criminal prosecution, commercial dispute resolution, fiscal and regulatory compliance as well as capital markets and banking and finance matters, advising lenders and international conglomerates on some of the largest and most complex project finance deals since 1982 and has been described by Chambers Global as “a legend in the industry”. He has been consistently recognised as one of the leading lawyers in the world by International Financial Law Review (IFLR1000). Konyin has contributed in no small measure to shaping the Nigerian economic and legal landscape.

Konyin is also a Professor of Law at the Babcock University, Ogun State, a frequent speaker at various forums, and has authored over 150 published articles and books – including Financial and Legal Implications of the Nigerian Capital Market and Legal Aspects of Finance in Emerging Markets (Volumes I and II).
