With a notable career in Islamic finance, Dr Aishath Muneeza holds the position of Professor and Associate Dean for Students and Internationalisation at INCEIF University in Malaysia. Throughout her professional journey, she has gained extensive experience and recognition from esteemed institutions in Islamic finance. Notably, Dr Muneeza made history as the first female Minister of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in the Maldives and later as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury in the same country. She has also served as the Head of Islamic Finance at the Capital Market Development Authority of Maldives and has been a member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy (National Fatawa Council of the Maldives) Her contributions extend beyond governmental positions. She has served as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Hajj Pilgrimage Fund, Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited and the Maldives Center for Islamic Finance Limited, which the government of Maldives formed to strategise Maldives as the hub for Islamic finance in South Asia. Additionally, Dr. Muneeza is a registered Shariah adviser with the Securities Commission of Malaysia, enabling her to structure Islamic capital market products. For over a decade, she has held the apex Shariah Advisory Council of the Capital Market Development Authority of the Maldives chairmanship. She also chairs several in-house Shariah advisory committees. Furthermore, Dr. Muneeza’s expertise is sought after as a member of the Board Shariah Committee of CIMB Islamic, Malaysia, and Munich Re. Her involvement extends to the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), where she serves as a Public Interest Monitoring Consultative Committee (PIMCC) member. Additionally, Dr Muneeza holds an elected executive membership on the Bar Council of the Maldives.
