Dr Umaru is a seasoned and accomplished manager with over twenty-five years of extensive experience at the highest echelons of the banking, pension, investment, manufacturing, and commercial sectors within Nigeria’s economy. He has provided advisory services and leadership at both the private and public sector pinnacles and is proficient in governance, finance, and investments.Currently serving as the Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (formerly the Nigeria Stock Exchange) and the Gombe State Investment and Properties Limited, he also holds directorship positions on the boards of Jaiz Bank Plc, Tangerine Insurance Limited, Tangerine APT Pensions Limited, and FBN Senegal Limited. Past appointments include the Chairmanship of Ashaka Cement Plc from 2011 to 2014 and board memberships with Lafarge Africa Plc, Central Securities and Clearing System Plc, Kano Electricity Distribution Company, and First Bank of Nigeria Mortgages Limited. Since 2001, he has been at the helm of Finmal Finance Services Limited, an investment bank, as the Managing Director and CEO.His influence extends to policy and strategy formulation in both the private and public sectors, as evidenced by his contributions to the Vision 2020 Committee and the Presidential Advisory Committee (PAC) on the Nigerian Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP). In 2019, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Commerce, Trade, and Investment Sub-Committee of the Gombe State Transition Committee. Furthermore, he has actively served on several Securities and Exchange Commission committees, particularly concerning capital market matters and investment promotion in Nigeria.Dr Kwairanga’s academic achievements include advanced degrees in business administration, corporate governance, and finance from reputable universities in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He has enriched his knowledge with high-level corporate governance, capital markets, and investment courses from esteemed institutions like Harvard Business School, the New York Institute of Finance, Hawthorne Business School, the University of Philadelphia, and the Columbia Business School.Regarding professional qualifications, he holds the titles of Fellow and Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Fellow and Past President of the Certified Pension Institute Nigeria, and Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria. Beyond his professional endeavors, he is a prominent community leader in Gombe State, bearing the traditional title of Sarkin Fulani Gombe.
