Ahmad Usman Kollere is an accomplished professional with a distinguished insurance and financial regulation career. As the Assistant Director and Head of Licensing & Regulation for Intermediaries at the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) in Abuja since February 2023, Mr Kollere’s extensive qualifications and wide-ranging experience make him a prominent figure in the industry.
With a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Maiduguri and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Sociology from the same institution, Mr. Kollere laid a solid foundation for his career. He further honed his expertise by obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Insurance from the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance (IIBI) in London. His commitment to continuous learning led him to the Academy for International Modern Studies (AIMS) in the UK, where he earned the designation of a Certified Takaful Practitioner in 2012.
A series of leadership roles at NAICOM mark Mr. Kollere’s professional journey. Notably, he served as the pioneer Head of Corporate Governance and takaful, significantly contributing to the industry from 2012 to 2016. Following this, he took on the Head of Market Development role at NAICOM in 2017-2018 and later became the Head of the Financial Inclusion Unit at NAICOM from 2018 to 2023.
His involvement in various working groups, nationally and internationally, illustrates his commitment to shaping the future of financial regulation and insurance practices. Notable affiliations include the SEC Nigeria Capital Market 10-Year Master Plan Committee, the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Malaysia Retakaful Standard Working Group, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Financial Inclusion Technical Committee, and the IFSB Malaysia Task Force for Prudential and Structural Islamic Financial Indicators (PSIFIs) Programme for Takaful Sector.
Mr. Kollere’s commitment to professional development and ethical standards is evident in his membership in esteemed associations such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (MCIPM) in Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance (Associate Fellow) in the UK, International Compliance Association (Corporate Governance Specialist) in the UK, and being an Associate Member of the Toronto Centre for Global Leadership in Financial Supervision. He is also a Fellow of Nigeria’s Association of Corporate Governance Professionals.
His dedication to expanding his knowledge has taken him on study tours to various global financial centres and institutions, including the UK, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Ghana. He has been a resource person at numerous workshops, contributing his expertise to financial development in Nigeria.
Mr. Kollere is also a published author, with articles in Leadership Newspaper discussing Takaful and financial inclusion in Nigeria and Takaful versus conventional insurance.
