Azeezah Muse-Sadiq is a highly accomplished legal practitioner and a partner of Banwo & Ighodalo, a 1st Tier law firm in Nigeria. She obtained her degree in Law from the prestigious University of Lagos, holds a Certificate in the Laws and Economics of Mergers and Acquisition from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law from Kings College London. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the International Compliance Association, and the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria as The BoardRoom Africa. She is a member of the Board of Directors of H& YZ Furniture Limited. With an illustrious career spanning over seventeen (17) years, Azeezah joined B&I in 2006 and was called to the Partnership in 2017. Her core practice areas include capital markets, Mergers and Acquisitions and corporate restructurings, Islamic finance, taxation, regulatory compliance, consumer protection law and competition law.
Azeezah is a distinguished and invaluable contributor to the firm’s Islamic finance practice area; renowned for her profound knowledge and extensive industry experience, she continues to play a pivotal role in structuring domestic and international Islamic financial transactions, including, amongst others, sukuk issuances, and shari’ah compliant project finance deals and often engages relevant regulators in devising ingenious solutions required to facilitate complex and novel transaction structures. Some of her transactions include the First Sukuk Transaction by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Lagos State Government One Trillion naira debt and hybrid instruments programme, which includes a nineteen billion eight hundred and fifteen million naira forward ijarah sukuk; the programme is the first multi-instrument issuance programme established by a supranational in Nigeria as well as ongoing Islamic finance transactions by some of her corporate clients.
Azeezah is consistently recognised by legal directories and ranking publications, including International Financial Law Review 1000, Who’s Who Legal, Chambers and Partners, and The Legal 500, as a market leader, woman leader, recommended lawyer, and a leading lawyer in her core practice areas in the Nigerian market and internationally.
